New Start Time for the Jams I will resume leading the Beginner Bluegrass Jam at the Pioneer Building next Thursday (Sept. 5). The jam will start at 7pm instead of 6:30pm. When it gets closer to wintertime, we may be able to resume starting the jams at 6:30, if Revitalize Juice Bar decides to close earlier during the late Fall and Winter. Please avoid moving tables and chairs to set up for the jam until somewhere between five and ten minutes before 7pm if there are still Revilatize customers making use of the space we use for jamming. New Song Lists Included in the attachments are two new song lists for the jam which are intended to replace the main list and additional songs list that we used for the jam before the Summer break. The first list (titled 'Beginner Bluegrass Jam - Sept. - Dec. 2019 - Main List') consists of the 20 songs that were on the previous main song list, plus 6 more songs that I intend on making the song of the week between now and the end of the year. This list of 26 songs is the list that we will play from for the first half of the evening. Notice that, unlike on the previous main list, most of the songs are not given a specified key. This is because, from now on, I will be welcoming others to lead the singing on songs played during the first half of the evening, and I will be expecting those who choose to do so to select the key that best suits their voice of the 8 keys that we make use of at the beginner jam: A, Bb, B, C, D, E, F, and G. The second list (titled 'Beginner Bluegrass Jam - Sept. - Dec. 2019 - Additional Songs') serves the same purpose as the previous Additional Song list, namely, that when taken together with the Main List, this list is there to help to give a clearer idea of what kinds of songs are most appropriate to introduce into the beginner jam in its current phase. Notice that some of the really commonplace folk songs that adapt well to bluegrass like 'She'll Be Coming Round The Mountain', 'This Land Is Your Land' and 'You Are My Sunshine' that were on the previous additional songs list are not on the new version of the list, but have been replaced by songs that are more specific to bluegrass: songs like 'Ain't Nobody Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone', 'Little Cabin Home On The Hill', and 'Wild Mountain Flowers For Mary'. Also included in the attachments is the Basic Chord Progressions handout that the song lists are keyed to, and Nashville Number System charts for converting the number names of chords to their letter names for the keys that songs are played in at the jam. No changes have been made to these handouts. Jason
