Hi everyone,
The song of the week is 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken' in the key of C. Recordings The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - on their classic 3-record 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken' album: with Earl Scruggs on banjo, Vassar Clements on fiddle, Doc Watson on guitar, and Mother Maybelle Carter, Jimmy Martin, and Roy Acuff taking turns singing the verses: key of A Will The Circle Be Unbroken - YouTube Jimmy Martin - keys of Bb & C Jimmy Martin- Will the Circle be Unbroken - YouTube Ralph Stanley - key of A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFqL6BprLZM Jason Homey & The Snake River Boys - key of G (starts at 15:24) Jason Homey and the Snake River boys, IBA Open Mic, 10_22_19 - YouTube Jam Videos Janene Thomas - key of C Will The Circle Be Unbroken [C] - YouTube Jason Homey - keys of G & A Jason’s YouTube Links – Alphabetical Listing – Parisology (cyberplasm.com) Progression 1111 4411 1111 1511 (Prog. V3 on the Basic Chord Progressions handout) In the key of G: 1 = G, 4 = C, and 5 = D. In the key of A: 1 = A, 4 = D, and 5 = E. In the key of Bb: 1 = Bb, 4 = Eb, and 5 = F In the key of C: 1 = C, 4 = F. and 5 = G Etc. (Refer to the Number System Chart in the attachments.) Melody Sheets & Lyric Cheat Sheet In the attachments, I have included a melody sheet in standard notation in the key of C, a melody sheet in mandolin tab in the key of C, three melody sheets in guitar tab, two of which are written in C an octave apart from each other, and one of which is written in G (capo 5 to raise it up to C: refer to the Capo Chart in the attachments), two melody sheets in banjo tab: one in C, and the other in G (capo 5 to raise it up to C: refer to the Capo Chart in the attachments), and a lyric cheat sheet that gives the first words of each of the verses of the song in large print. The reason why it is in large print is so that one can put the sheet on the floor - instead of on a music stand - when one is leading the singing on the song at the jam, and quickly glance at it before - not while - one starts singing the next verse of the song in case, in the moment, one forgets how the next verse begins (a common occurrence at jams and in live band performances). Happy Pickin', Jason Hi everyone, Attached here are the handouts for the initial phase of the new Beginner Bluegrass Jam, led by Janene Thomas on Tuesday evenings, starting this coming Tuesday (Sept. 5th) from 6:30 - 8:45pm at Ansots in the Pioneer Building (6th and Main, downtown Boise). ![]()
